The Galaxy S4, your new life companion as Samsung aptly put it, comes equipped with a 13-megapixel camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. We’ll come back to the digital camera’s tech specs a bit later and first talk about its features. Traditionally, classics such as face detection, geolocalization, and HDR function or panoramas are making a come-back. But Samsung took it a step (or two) further.
Dual Camera :
It seems obvious but one had to think about it. Since the smartphone has two individual digital cameras on either side, using them simultaneously was a logical step forward. And so Dual Camera was born.
While you will be snapping pictures, you will be able to create new effects. Take for instance, a beautiful landscape you want to share with your friends. You can show them while at the same time an small inset frame appears in the corner. This might seem fad-ish but we’re ready to bet cool applications will soon start to appear.
Dual Video Call :
Another application of the Dual Camera concept can be found in video. When you are chatting with your friends using ChatOn or in the middle of a video call, only one camera comes on at a time. Now, thanks to the S4, you can share a view of yourself and your environment at the same time.
As the name implies, this feature will come in handy during your next vacation. Using this neat new gadget you’ll be able to erase photo-bomber and other ill-received objects obstructing the view in your shots on the fly.
Drama Shot :
This feature is part of a set of eight that will allow people to capture special moments. The digital camera will capture up to 100 images in 4 seconds, and then combine the images to create a moving clip (akin to a GIF image).
Sound & Shot :
If you’re a fan of photo montages set to music, or if you want to recreate the mood of the moment the photo was taken, then you will enjoy this feature. Before you take a snapshot, the Galaxy S4 grabs 5 seconds worth of surrounding sounds in parallel, and associates those 5 seconds to the shot.
Story Album :
Your smartphone follows you everywhere, to the point where you can’t imagine life without it. While away on business or on holiday, the Galaxy S4 will be fully able to function as your primary camera. Thanks to the Gallery app, you can create albums, sort and group photos.
Thanks to the Story Album, the Galaxy S4 will automatically create albums surrounding a single contexte. Imagine you go on holiday abroad: the S4 will automatically suggest creating an album containing all the snapshots from your trip.
The photos will be featured in a fully-customizable digital album. You’ll then be able to share these on Facebook or print them out on paper (for a price ranging from 10 to 30 bucks).
